In The
Frame/2009 framing competition winner
WINNER OF THE PICTURE BUSINESS FRAMING
COMPETITION IS ANNOUNCED
Visitors to the Fair
judged the ten finalists, whose work was hung
at the entrance to Hall 12 during Spring Fair
on both 'visual appeal' and 'workmanship' in
general.
The total number of
points scored was 529, 82 of which went to the
winner, Denis McInerney [Thomas St. Framing
& Gallery, Limerick] for his Twiggy
entry.
Describing the materials
used and the techniques adopted, Denis
McInerney advised Picture Business thus: "The
supplier of the frame is AMD Mouldings, based
in Dublin. The white mount is Alphamount
Artcare from Nielson Bainbridge supplied by
Quality Wood Mouldings of Fermanagh, N.
Ireland. The black mount is Charcoal Black
Conservation Pro from Daler.
The grey, pink and damson
colours are Whirecore
Mountboard from the Daler range. The barrier
mount is Conservation and the separating mount
between the print and black mount is of
Conservation quality, both from
Daler.
The glass is regular 2mm
Picture Glass. The Backing Board
is Brown Framers Board from
AMD Mouldings. Hooks are Double D Rings with No
4 Brass Picture Wire for hanging and there are
Cork Bumpers from Lion at the base of the
finished frame to keep the picture from the
wall.
"When it comes to
techniques used, I cut all apertures on a
TruuCur Mountcutter. The colours were slotted
into circular apertures cut in the black mount.
The double and barrier mounts were hinged using
PH7-70 tape. The print was secured to the mount
using Conservation Gummed Paper [Conservation
Method applied] and the mounted picture secured
to the frame with F1exi Points and finished
with Kraft Gummed Tape.
"In conclusion, the
variation in the colours together with the
circular aspect combines to emphasise a 60's
Fashion effect."
Denis McInerney wins a
cheque in rhe sum of £1,000, Richard Chrisrie
wins £500 and Karensa Carr £250. In addition,
all three will receive a prinred award document
announcing their various successes, as will the
remaining seven short-listed entrants detailing
their position as finalists.
The pieces are to be
auctioned off in aid of chariry. This year's
favoured recipient is rhe Multiple Sclerosis
Society. Dennis McInerneys
